Well...that was quick....

I threw out a question about taking down the swags and balloons on the window dressings in the the formal living room (of our new home) this morning.  Background information.... I have moved to a new city and don't have in person friends to consult with.  Our realtor suggested taking down the swags and balloon shades and leaving only the panels.  I put the question out here and my two new blogging friends Suzan and Nancy gave me great feedback.  They also wanted those balloon shades and swags gone!  So, as it happens, I had someone here to measure for the roman shades in the master bedroom today.  He seemed very knowledgeable, so I asked him to look at the dreaded window treatment and see if he could take parts of it down.  He climbed on his ladder, took a look and asked me whether I wanted to do it today or when he came back to hang the roman shades.  Armed with the confidence of two blog comments, my realtor, and my mother (who helped me supervise).... I confidently replied, "Now?"
I realized that I didn't really have a "before" picture,  so I quickly snapped this one (including his ladder...)

Yea... I know....

but here is the great news.....
and all it cost me was his labor....

Don't worry, the table between the chairs is just a "filler."  Now that I have good feel for the room, I can't wait to go find a sofa!!!!  The room is suddenly "my style."  A pleasant bonus has been the new view of the backyard that sold us on this house in the first place.

Thanks again Suzan and Nancy for giving me the confidence to make this change!

Blessings,

Eilis

  6. What a difference!!! Good for you on making this room your own!!! Didn't know there were other windows above, and you have a wood cornice which hides the hardware too!!

  7. I didn't realize there were windows above until he took down the first piece!
I would have had to look at the windows from outside to know...
Thanks everyone for your delightful comments.
