Kitchen Decor

While I love our new kitchen, it's fairly dark.  Changing the black granite counters is not an option. I'm trying to lighten it up with accessories while keeping the paint and cabinet colors as they are.

So far, I have removed the dark vines and baskets that remained in the pot rack/light fixture when we moved in.  I've been been looking for bargains on baskets and pottery in World Market, HomeGoods, and Hobby Lobby.  I'm hoping for a country french feel. It's a work in progress, but here's what it looks like now.

I've shown the flower box on the island before, but here it is again:

The 8 foot round jute rug I ordered from Pottery Barn arrived yesterday!  (They don't carry the 8 foot size in the store, but I was happy to find that they had it online.)

Here's a little more of the breakfast area.  I'm afraid my camera doesn't like the type of glass in the cabinets.  There aren't really spots on the glass....

If it seems like I'm trying to hide an elephant in the room with these camera angles,
it's because I am.  I don't like the light fixture over the table.  It had a broken piece when we moved in, but my husband was able to fix it.  Darn.

And... here's a closer picture of the "dough bowl" I purchased in Canton.

  1. What a pretty kitchen! I love the accents that you are adding; and the flower box is awesome. Love the dough bowl, as well. I need to get to Canton next month! I'm excited to see how you pull it all together! New follower...hope you'll follow me, too!

  2. Your kitchen looks wonderful. I am really wanting to see your stove with that brick! Thanx for partying at THT.

  3. Oh man! This blog is amazing. How do you make it look like this ?

  4. I love pink kitchen accessories! I talked my parents into the pink kitchen aid mixer...can't wait to graduate so I can buy one of my own :)

  5. It's nice to know that you're just playing with the accessories instead of changing paint colors. I know this is a bigger challenge, but it's a chance for you to use your creativity to balance the color schemes in your kitchen. I do hope you assess the sink, countertops, and cabinets first to know if renovations aren't necessary. If so, then you can proceed your decoration projects. :)
