Recently, I saw an adorable sign that said "Be MERRY" in a store. It was happy and vintage and wanted to come home with me. The problem was, it was long and narrow with the letters going down vertically. I wanted something similar that would go on top of the china hutch.
So... I used my Silhouette cutting machine to stencil the same words on a board. Happily, the board I used is the one that usually says "BLOOM." I just turned it over and painted the back. Of course, I also did some distressing with sandpaper.
Easy on the budget (since I already had everything I used) AND one less Christmas decoration to store in the off season!
Drum Roll Please...

DeleteFirst of all, I'm crushing on your hutch! Oh...just beautiful. And I must be the only woman in America who does't own a Silhouette..but I think I really need one. Perfect to make signs like yours. Thanks for the inspiration and giving me more reasons to put a silhouette on my Christmas list.
ReplyDeleteThanks Lynn. To be honest I've only used it a couple of times...
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Eilis! What a great idea to use the back of another sign!!! I have a question for ya. So I've been wanting a crafting machine for the past year, and I have no idea which one to get? I've heard many great things about the Silhouette and the Cricut...so any thoughts?
ReplyDeleteI only know about the Silhouette Cameo. I bought one when there was sale on a bundle with the glass etching stuff. I got frustrated with that because I tried to start with small intricate designs on curved glass and wasn't happy with how the etching turned out. (I wanted to put cute words on wine glasses.) Lately, I got it out and used it for vinyl and stenciling and have been very happy with it. I think it's like how kids write big at first and then can write smaller. I'm still working at kindergarten level :)
