Guess what I saw when I woke up this morning?
But wait...it gets even better.
This is what I see when I walk in to our bedroom!
I chose "Do" as my word this year.
I have been checking off my list of "someday I wills."
Reupholstering a French style chair (with a printed fabric showing on the back) was on my list.
I have recovered lots of seat cushions and painted lots of furniture,
but wanted to tackle one of these total transformations.
So...after buying an inexpensive old chair in an auction,
And studying Miss Mustard Seed's video tutorial,
I did it!
Here's one photo of the chair without fabric and painted with ASCP Pure White.
I'm not showing all the steps because Miss Mustard Seed's video tutorial is wonderful.
If you are thinking about taking on this type of project, be sure to check it out.
This was even more work than I expected.
I will never again wonder why it is so expensive to have furniture reupholstered professionally.
Taking out the old staples is really a pain.
But the reward is sweet.
I LOVE my chair.
I love the birds and flowers of the toile.
I love that the colors are perfect in our room.
Heartfully,
Eilis

This chair is indeed a dream come true. That back is just brilliant. I do hope you will link up this gem of a post tomorrow at Thoughts of Home on Thursday.
ReplyDeleteI sure will, Laura. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteYour chair turned out fabulous! I love your fabric choices. I have two chairs just like that but mine have leather on them. Maybe one day I will redo them. They sit in hubby's office so the more masculine right now the better!:)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Pamela! It was easy to decide with this chair, since the old upholstery was ruined.

DeleteWow that looks amazing! I have a chair that's very similar that could use your touch. The fabric you chose is beautiful. My dad used to have wallpaper similar to the bird pattern.

ReplyDeleteWow! You did a fantastic job on the chair. I have one I have been wanting to tackle and am a little intimidated by it. I hope that when I get around to it the chair turns out as nice as yours did. This is my first visit to your blog-hopping over from The Chelsea Project and the Friday's Furniture Fix. I will be sure to stop by more often! ~Jolena
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jolena. Delighted to have you visit!
DeleteEilis,
ReplyDeleteHats off to you! I love the toile with the birds and flowers, and of course, the French-styled frame. It is indeed perfect for your bedroom which has a lot of other peeks at more French inspiration. The tassel is hanging from what looks like a French armoire very similar to the one in my bedroom.
Thank you for following Botanic Bleu. I became one of your GFC followers a few weeks ago after we met at Laura's Texas bloggers lunch. So glad to have met you!
Judith
Hi Judith,
DeleteYou are right about the French armoire. It is my one big splurge in the room. Thanks for visiting.

Thanks, Jann!
DeleteEilis this chair is lovely! I too taught myself some basic reupholstered skills from MMS. I love that your attitude this year is to be a doer. It's so easy to wish for different things but never take action. Way to go on learning a new skill, and you have a gorgeous new chair to show for it! Thanks for linking up to #FridaysFurnitureFix!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Melanie.
DeleteThis brought back memories of reupholstering a Chippendale sofa years ago - a pain, but it turned out great.
ReplyDeleteI love the fabric you chose, but even more, I love the lines of the chair.
Thanks for Sharing Your Cup!
Thank you, Carol!
DeleteWow! What a beautiful chair you have. I haven't every tackled that type of upholstering yet...maybe some day. haha Love that your word is 'do'. Thanks for sharing at Your Inspired Design this week!

ReplyDeleteToile is my all time favorite fabric. I probably have (way) too many patterns of it in my home, but I never get tired of looking at it!!
