Bombe Chest for the Entry Hall

I enjoyed a great lunch with friends a few days ago.  The fun didn't end when the server brought our check. The restaurant we ate at happens to be very near a consignment furniture store.  It's small, but always worth a look since the inventory changes frequently.  The owners are pretty choosy about what they will accept and keep their prices very reasonable.
On this visit, I found this charming little bombe chest.
I already had a previous consignment store find in this spot, but once I saw this one, I couldn't just leave it there.  I guess the previous one is headed back to find yet another home.

Here it is in our entry hall.  I kept the mirror (that matched the old piece) above it.  I like this new duo even more than the old combination.  My mom always used to say that "it is a woman's prerogative to change her mind."  She used those words whenever she had a better idea.  She was and still is a wise woman. Now if I had custom ordered the first piece from a high end store, I would feel locked in to my decision.  However, I think bargain finds from garage sales, estate sales, and consignment stores allow a little more flexibility.
Don't you?

It is especially gorgeous with the lamp turned on.  This one will be staying.

Thanks for all the kind comments about Dexter.   Lexi continues to settle in and make herself indispensable around here.  She even helped me to take these photos.

  1. The chest is fantastic. I like the colour of the wood and it looks well constructed. A great find. I can tell you that so much of my furniture has found its way into my home through consignment shops, Kijiji, auctions, etc. It is a matter of exercising some patience until you find the right piece to bring home.

  2. Your new piece looks great there! That spot just keeps getting prettier and prettier.

Happy to see that Lexi looks at home. She looks a little like Belle but maybe slightly bigger. You know rescue dogs are the best. :)

  3. Hi Eilis, thanks for leaving a comment on my blog!
Wow, I think you lucked out with this bomb chest! Its shape is sooo... pretty and the wood looks absolutely wonderful on the photos. I wouldn't have left that there either, even if I already had a chest at home.
Love the photo with your dog :-)!
    Wishing you a wonderful weekend!

  4. That chest is just beautiful. Mint condition, it seems and looks perfect in that location. I love your airy, bright entry hall.

I love finding good secondhand furniture -- and you are right about how it makes you feel less guilty about swapping it out! Very nice find, Eilis!
